New York: Suozzi backs Gianaris redistricting bill

State government reformers target voting district reapportionment
AT A GLANCE Here is how the reapportionment panel would be picked under the Gianaris-Spano bill:
* The four legislative leaders -- two Republicans and two Democrats -- each pick two people to come up with a pool of 40 potential members of a commission to redraw lines: 15 Republicans, 15 Democrats and 10 of minor parties or unaffiliated.
* Each leader then picks two from that group to be part of the panel.
* Those eight panel members pick three more.
* If they can't agree on those, the chief judge of the state Court of Appeals decides who those members are.
