Texas: Kinky calls for inclusion of independent candidates on partisan primary ballots

Kinky Friedman finally gets some political headlines with - you guessed it - political reform for independent candidates. But did he forget about independent voters?
Gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman on Monday announced political reform ideas he said would “get the politicians out of politics.”
Included in his plans: simplifying rules to get on the ballot, legalizing the initiative and referendum process and giving candidates access to public money to pay for their campaigns.
The independent candidate would allow Democrats and Republicans to keep their primaries, but require those parties to include independent candidates on their primary ballots. He also wants to allow same-day voter registration, prohibit any state employee from lobbying for two years after they leave their position and make redistricting less political.
And he wants the governor to have more direct access to the people. He would set up a toll-free number anyone could call to speak directly to the governor and spend time each day on the line, he said. ......
