INDEPENDENT VOTERS

• Tea party unlike true independents (Kim Wright, Rapid City Journal)
• Stiletto Nation: female independent voters want (what else?) independence! (by Carrie Lukas, The Daily Caller)  Carrie L. Lukas is the vice president for policy and economics for the Independent Women's Forum. 
• Jon Stewart has the right idea (By John P. Avlon, CNN Contributor) "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart is planning a rally for moderates on the weekend before Election Day.
• Struggling Senator Sticks To Middle Of Road In Colo. (by JEFF BRADY, NPR) And, in the general election, Bennet has to appeal to the third of Colorado voters who don't belong to a political party. These unaffiliated voters can be a fickle bunch. Two years ago most were strong Obama supporters, helping him win the state. But the economy has worsened in Colorado. Many of those voters have turned against the president and, it appears, anyone who's allied with him.
• New York Governor's Race Looks Less Sure for Cuomo (By MICHAEL HOWARD SAUL, Wall Street Journal) Mr. Cuomo leads 87% to 8% among Democrats, which outnumber Republicans nearly two to one in New York State. Paladino leads 83% to 13% among Republicans and 49% to 43% among independent voters.

OPEN PRIMARIES

• Reasonable choice: Lisa Murkowski (LETTER Homer News - AK) Joe Miller says he is a person that follows the Constitution, so I don't understand why he and especially Dan Fagan (radio talk show) oppose Sen. Lisa Murkowski giving all the people a chance to vote for whomever they want in the general election.
• Op-Ed: Michigan becoming ungovernable (By PHIL POWER, Traverse City Record Eagle - MI) Much better would be the open primary system now being tried in California and Oregon, in which the two top finishers in the primary, regardless of their party affiliation, run against each other in the general election. This system gives both finalists an incentive to court the center. Naturally, the leaders of both major parties hate the idea.
• Marin Voice: Should parties get involved in nonpartisan contests? (Richard Rubin, Marin Independent Journal) A majority of voters increasingly disgusted with an electoral process that favors partisan hegemony and legislative paralysis over individual responsibility opted in June for Proposition 14, which ushers in the new era of the Open Primary. This will enable the top two voter getters of any party emerging from the primary to go head to head in the general election.

INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES

• Every State Has At Least One Minor Party or Independent Candidate on Ballot for State Legislature (Ballot Access News)
• Crist: Florida could change polarized politics by voting for him (By WILLIAM MARCH | The Tampa Tribune) "George Washington said if we allow the political parties to gain too much power we may end up, in essence, crippling the country we just created," Crist said. "We're there."

DEMOCRATS
