SC: GOP demands party registration (BY JIM DAVENPORT, Post and Courier) The GOP says South Carolina's open primary system denies the party's First Amendment rights to free association.
To Party or Not to Party? (Gotham Gazette/Wonkster) Last night, Harry Kresky, an election lawyer who has served as counsel to the New York Independence Party, led the charge for nonpartisan elections. In his testimony, he noted that more than 750,000 registered voters in New York not affiliated with any party are shut out of primaries altogether, and 1.3 million cannot vote in the Democratic Party, which very often is the real election in this city.
Cuomo: WFP = NO (BY CELESTE KATZ, Daily News/Daily Politics) Cuomo has, however, accepted the nomination of the Independence Party, which has an operative who is also under investigation related to the fate of money spent on Mayor Bloomberg's 2009 campaign. The operative, John Haggerty, now works for GOP gubernatorial hopeful Carl Paladino, who has defended the hire.
