Senate run will determine Hillary’s White House chances

June 5, 2006 ...Yet, there are some findings that should give Clinton pause. An ABC News/Washington Post poll taken last month found that while Clinton has strong support from Democrats and liberals, she lacks appeal among independents and conservatives, who are often the difference between a winning and a losing run. Just 18 percent of independents and only 2 percent of Republicans say they would definitely vote for her.
Analysts will closely watch Clinton’s New York run to see if and how her positions shift to appeal to those voters she now turns off. It is indeed 2006, but 2008 is just around the corner.....[more]
