According to the Secretary of State, there are 17,229 registered Independents as of April 24th, making the
Independent Party of Oregon the 3rd largest political party (and largest "minor party") in Oregon. The growth of the party, which is less than eighteen months old, is unprecedented for an Oregon-based minor political party.
And Sal Peralta's blog,
Oregon Independent, has some great statistics of interest. Here's one: Though 948 Independents have re-registered as Democrats in 2008, 1037 Democrats have re-registered as Independents.
The future of the country is peeking through in Oregon this year!
