Once again an Arizona newspaper claims that independents are registering in large numbers in this state. The true statistics are:

2000-2002 107,715
2002-2004 165,771
2004-2006 26,483

The number of new voters registering independent dropped to less than 1/5 its previous rate due to the fact that party politicians took the option to register independent off from the Arizona voter registration form, leaving only a space designated Specify Party Preference.
I have yet to find any segment of the news media in Arizona that will print the statistics for independent voter registration. They all continue to claim that there is still a large number of independents registering to vote in Arizona, obviously because of a previous agreement with the political parties in this state to keep their unlawful tactics out of the news. Too late now. They have been caught red-handed once again.
