INDEPENDENT VOTERS:

• 42% of independents voted for Obama
• 23% of the voters in South Carolina are independents
• 18% of Obama's total vote came from independents

RECORD TURNOUT: In 2004, about 294,000 people voted in the presidential primary here. More than 530,000 people voted yesterday.
