Matt Yglesias (matthewyglesias.theatlantic.com) rather thoroughly demolishes the Washington Post article in his June 8 post, Bringing People Together.
We independents rightly point out that America has a poisoned political culture. But our critique must consider that one element of this poison is a society riven with deep fissures of class and race. In these matters, I do not aspire to rise above them -- I take sides, the side of the poor and oppressed.
We strive to be the voice of independents, but fact is, independents -- if articulated -- will have many voices.
