heh. I actually laughed out loud when I saw this. Did you catch that recent op-ed by Markos Mulistas, or whatever his name is, against open primaries?

Yes -- Moulitsas (Greek for opportunist Republican turned opportunist Democrat...) confides in his post on The Hill:

"...We saw this in 2008, when Rush Limbaugh organized “Operation Chaos,” urging his listeners to vote for Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries at a time when Barack Obama had seemingly wrapped up the nomination. I led a similar campaign during the Michigan primary — which was meaningless on the Democratic side — urging my readers to vote for Mitt Romney as a way to try and extend a Republican primary that had been pretty much locked up by John McCain..."

So how's that workin' out for ya, Markos and Rush?

Seems to me that the lesson to draw from 2008 is that independents went for the two outsiders in open state primaries and won the nominations for both Obama and McCain, despite your cynical little publicity stunts.

And in the general election, it's well-documented that it was an alliance of independents, progressives and black voters who were Obama's margin of victory, a fact that Markos et al would rather ignore because they can't control this up-from-the-bottom growing national anti-partisan pro-independent movement.

We need open primaries and other structural political reform so that party bosses and their lackeys get out of the way of the country moving forward.
