ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Fresh from victory in theFlorida Legislature on the term limits issue, the president of FloridaCitizens For Term Limits, Max Linn, declared, "We are all delighted by ourvictory! We're on a roll and now have the momentum to win the war againstcareer politicians." The Senate and House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly towithdraw a controversial measure extending lawmakers' term limits fromFlorida's 2006 ballot. In a humiliating reversal, the House voted 103-14against extending term limits and the Senate voted 26-14 to drop themeasure. Commenting on the win, Linn said, "The margin of victory for ourmovement shows a total surrender by Tallahassee politicians." "There's an obvious leadership vacuum in Tallahassee, and that leavesthe door wide open to a third party challenge," said Linn. "We know we havea tiger by the tail," Linn explained. "We have received overwhelmingsupport, and we are hearing a cry for a third party challenge to existingpowers in the state of Florida." "Everywhere we have taken our campaign, speaking to Republican,Democratic and service clubs from the Panhandle to the Keys, we have founddeep frustration with mainstream political parties," said Linn. Linn says he has been fortunate to gain statewide recognition throughhis group's campaign. "I can't ignore the value of name recognition amongthe voters, and I may decide to respond to the demand for a third partychallenge to the political system in Florida." Linn says he has not yet made up his mind about running, and he isconsulting with other political activists outside of the two mainstreampolitical parties. "If I do run and win the governorship, I will imposeterm limits upon myself," Linn pledged. "As governor, I would serve onlyone term and would return to private life, just as I have always suggestedthat others should do," Linn said. Linn says he will continue the campaign to put muscle behind termlimits with two citizen initiatives for the 2008 ballot. The first measurewould require politicians to leave elected office for three years afterserving a maximum of eight. The second measure would end politicalpensions.
