Pennsylvania: Independent Diamond for Governor Petition Logs 1,000th Download

For Immediate Release:
May 8, 2006

The Russ Diamond for Governor campaign announced today that the petition to place the Independent candidate’s name on the November general election ballot has been downloaded 1,103 times since the announcement of his entry into the gubernatorial race.

Diamond, who announced his candidacy on April 13, is required by Pennsylvania’s election law to collect the signatures of 67,070 registered voters by August 1 to qualify for ballot access. The figure represents an all-time high standard for a candidate in the Commonwealth.

“We’ve also sent out 115 petitioning kits by regular mail,” said Scott Green, chairman of, Diamond’s election committee. “and we’re coordinating efforts to have petitioners at polling places statewide during the primary election on May 16th.”

The campaign is recruiting “Primary Day Push” signature captains on its website and asking them to pledge to collect at least 100 signatures in four hours or less at one of Pennsylvania’s 1,000 busiest polling places and recruit and organize others in their area to make a similar pledge.

“We’ll be asking voters for signatures after they’re finished voting as they come out of the polls,” said Quince Eddens, a Diamond for Governor signature captain in central Pennsylvania. “With their vote freshly cast, we’re sure a distinct lack of choice in the biggest race in Pennsylvania will be on their minds.”

Additionally, eleven PACleanSweep candidates have accepted invitations to coordinate local primary day efforts with Diamond’s campaign.

PACleanSweep recently published poll handouts for each of its primary candidates. The palm cards are similar to the handouts developed for the judicial retention victory last November. Diamond’s gubernatorial campaign also posted a download-and-print flyer this week to aid petitioners in encounters with voters unfamiliar with the independent candidate.

Diamond has stated his goal for the August 1 deadline is 100,000 signatures to insure against potential legal challenges from the major parties.
