Independents swell Ohio races at filing deadline
Tuesday, May 02, 2006 Terry Oblander Plain Dealer--The governor's race got more crowded Monday.
So did the field of potential members of Congress.
Monday was the filing deadline for people wanting to be independent candidates in the November general election.
Robert Fitrakis of Columbus, the Green Party candidate for governor, filed petitions with Anita Rios of Toledo as lieutenant governor. Also seeking election are Libertarian Party gubernatorial candidate William S. Peirce of Mayfield and his running mate, Mark M. Noble of Columbus.
John A. Eastman of Centerville and Libertarian Timothy J. Kettler of Warsaw filed to run for Ohio secretary of state.
Three independents hope to challenge Republicans and Democrats for three congressional seats. .... more
