AUSTIN, Texas, May. 5, 2006 CBS News(AP) -- In a small, windowless room in an industrial part of town, with rock music softly thumping in the background and two mirrored disco balls spinning overhead, Kelley Lowes is working for a man who hopes to be Texas' first independent governor since Sam Houston, and its first ever named Kinky.
Humorist, author and songwriter Kinky Friedman is looking to oust Republican Gov. Rick Perry, as is fellow independent Carole Keeton Strayhorn, the state comptroller who bills herself as "one tough grandma."
