Strayhorn calls chief of elections biased
She takes her concern to court, saying ballot will sway to the GOP
By R.G. RATCLIFFE Houston Chronicle Austin Bureau May 1, 2006 AUSTIN - As Texas secretary of state, Roger Williams is the chief elections officer, but two independent candidates for governor are questioning whether he is too political for the job.
Lawyers for one of them, state Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, are scheduled to go into federal court today contending Williams is unfairly manipulating the ballot petition process to give Republican Gov. Rick Perry a leg up in the race against the independents.... more
